There are many places to look for real estate inventory, but most knowledgeable consumers & real estate professionals would agree that the REALTOR’s MLS system is the truest and most utilized resource for residential property.
What Is The REALTOR’s MLS System
“MLS” stands for multiple listing service, a system that is used by all subscribing real estate companies and their agents for a variety of reasons, one of which is to inventory real estate that is being offered for sale.
Historically, the information on the MLS was considered to be off limits to anyone other than the subscribing companies and their agents. Due to modern technology, specifically the internet, a great deal of the information on the MLS now is available to those who want it.
While only authorized subscribing companies and real estate agents can actually access the system, much of the information on the system can be passed on to others who seek that content. While not all real estate companies utilize the MLS, an overwhelmingly large percentage of companies do.
NOTE: Because most real estate companies use this system, we would suggest that you not even consider working with any agent or company who does not belong to our local MLS.
As one of our buyers, we can actually set you up in the MLS as one of our client accounts. By using a property search with criteria specific to what you are seeking, we can literally email you homes as they are listed- already presorted to match your specific criteria. This includes all the homes listed by all the real estate companies that use the MLS, not just our properties.
What this means to you is a constant flow of newly listed homes that match only what you are looking for (price, location, features, etc.). And you’ll know about them within minutes of them becoming available. There are lots of other advantages to this system as well which we can share with you at a later time. For now just know that it is a massive inventory tool capable of automatically searching for your new home.
